Choosing care

Home care vs. facility care

Many factors are involved in determining the best choice of care for your loved one, and there is no one answer for every situation. Most adults, however, prefer to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. The old adage 'no place like home' especially applies when we are not feeling well. Home With Help can be the solution to maintaining the optimal combination of safety and independence.

Home care

Living at home is most comfortable, improves quality of life and eliminates the stress of moving to an unfamiliar environment. Home With Help care is one on one: the caregiver gives 100% of their focus to the patient, which prevents falls, wandering and other negative situations. Home is also safer in terms of contracting illnesses and infections that multiply in institutions. Home care can be less expensive than other forms of care, and a plan of care can be developed to meet your needs and budget.

Nursing home

A nursing home generally provides room, meals, skilled nursing care and medical services to residents with chronic conditions requiring permanent care, or for those needing a recovery period after hospitalization. Nursing homes can offer short term rehabilitation, but typically the move is a permanent one, and daily costs for semi-private and private rooms are the highest of any option.

Adult day care

Although each facility differs, most adult day centers offer social activity, transportation, meals and snacks, personal care and therapeutic activities during daytime hours. The average patient-to-staff ratio is about 6 to 1, with a maximum of 20 to 1, so attention is shared.

Assisted living

Assisted living facilities are an option for adults who do not require the 24-hour nursing and medical care of a nursing home. They usually provide scheduled meals in a central dining room. Facilities typically charge a base rate and offer other services on a pay-per-need basis. It is important to know exactly what those fees are; sometimes they can be substantial.

What does home care cost? Until we send a case manager to your home for a free, no-obligation assessment and written plan of care we cannot quote an exact price. Many clients find that a well-planned schedule of home care costs less than a facility, especially when long term care insurance benefits are used.
